Tonight: Brian Belovich’s Boys Don’t Wear Lipstick 20th anniversary virtual reading fundraiser featuring Jacob Tobia, Peppermint, Jonny Beauchamp & Margaret Cho

Brian Belovitch‘s GLAAD Award-nominated autobiographical play Boys Don’t Wear Lipstick celebrates its 20th anniversary with a virtual benefit playreading tonight, Monday November 9th at 8pm ET. Boys Don’t Wear Lipstick, directed by Everett Quinton, details the writer’s journey “from boyhood to manhood – by way of a 15-year detour through womanhood.” The event will feature an all-star cast of LGBTQ+ activists, allies and performers including Katy Keene star Jonny Beauchamp, the iconic Grammy and Emmy nominated comedian Margaret Cho, RuPaul’s Drag Race season 10 star Yuhua Hamasaki, Tony-winner Lena Hall (Hedwig and the Angry Inch), Broadway star and Drag Race alum Peppermint, Sissy: A Coming-of-Gender Story memoirist and She-Ra, Princess of Power voice actor Jacob Tobia, Mason Alexander Park (Hedwig and the Angry Inch national Broadway tour), and Tony-nominee Daphne Rubin Vega, who originated the role of Mimi in Rent on Broadway.

Belovitch, who was the recent subject of Karen Bernstein’s feature documentary I’m Gonna Make You Love Me, was assigned male at birth, and in the 1980s he went on to live as an Army wife-turned-glamorous party girl named named Tish, and later, Natalia Gervais. She ruled New York City’s downtown nightlife scene, was photographed with the likes of Grace Jones and Andy Warhol at Studio 54, and performed at clubs with her friend Michael Musto. In the late 80s, after more than a decade as a woman, Tish transitioned back to Brian.

Proceeds from the virtual reading will benefit both the Emerging Artists Theatre (EAT), which produces a bi-annual New Work Series where artists of all disciplines can workshop their work, and the Callen-Lorde Community Health Center which provides sensitive, quality health care and related services targeted to New York’s LGBTQ communities, regardless of ability to pay.

For more details and to purchase a ticket head to BoysDontWearLipstick.com. Watch Boys Don’t Wear Lipstick live virtual reading at 8pm ET tonight, Monday November 9th. Donors will have the ability to view the production for up to four days after the live reading.
