Ryan Murphy reveals American Horror Story role for Pose star Angelica Ross

[N.B. Contains Potential Pose Season 2 Spoiler] Pose viewers bid a heartbreaking farewell to Angelica Ross’s character Candy last night in an episode of the groundbreaking series that highlighted the widespread violence against trans women of colour that continues to this day in the USA.

Pose creator Ryan Murphy, who directed last night’s episode, took to instagram to praise Ross’s performance in the show, “Last night’s episode of Pose required us all to dig deep – Janet Mock as writer, myself as writer and director, but most of all our incredible leading ladies. I must applaud Angelica Ross for her tour de force of a performance as Candy Abundance Ferocity. It has been a gift to watch her blossom as a true star and undeniable talent.”

Murphy then went to announce some castings news “Though she will always be our Candy, and our show suffers this incredible loss, I am elated that the world will get much more Angelica. She is joining the American Horror Story family in another unforgettable role. Congrats Angelica for making history, leaping from PoseFX to AHS1984. Welcome to the AHS family!”

Angelica Ross responded with a twitter post saying, “I am ELATED to make history as the first trans actor to secure 2 series regular roles, leaping from #PoseFX  to #AHS1984. Thank you @MrRPMurphy for the gift of playing Candy & creating my newest role on American Horror Story! I’m so honored & excited to join the @AHSFX family!!!”

There was more social media’s love from Pose writer and director Janet Mock, “Dear Angelica Ross: thanks for being our Candy, for putting more depth into a one-liner than we could ever write, for always coming through with the perfect adlib, for being a true star, phenomenal woman and actor. I cannot wait until everyone hears about your new role!”

Season 2 of Pose continues on FX Tuesdays at 10pm.
