Bright Light Bright Light’s (Rod Thomas) new single and video, directed by Tyler Jensen, This Was My House are wildly prescient during our current quarantined global existence. Scenes of Rod (and his strategically placed disco ball) in his apartment juxtapose with a veritable rainbow of out-of-doors’ liberation scenes culminating in some very ‘non-social distancing’ dancing at a club. The slinky tune gives some nods to 90s house (Deee-Lite meets Rescue Me) and features some great backing vocals from Madonna’s Truth or Dare girl gang gal pals Niki Harris and Donna De Lory.
As with most of Rod’s music you can enjoy it on many levels, as a slick dance floor filler or, if you pay attention to the lyrics, you’ll find tantalizing clues to a deeper personal story. Wise songwriters like BLBL know to keep certain details for the listener to fill in for themselves. Excited for the album!
This Was My House is the lead track from Bright Light Bright Light’s forthcoming album Fun City (out September 18th on his own label YSKWN!, in partnership with Megaforce Records and The Orchard).
