Last week it was announced that four leading North American LGBTQ film festivals, San Francisco’s Frameline, Toronto’s Inside Out, New York’s NewFest, and Los Angeles’ Outfest had joined forces to form NAQFA: the North American Queer Festival Alliance.
NAQFA’s first collaborative event, taking place tonight Wednesday June 24th 6pm PST/9pm EST, is a live-streamed celebration of Sam Feder’s examination of over one hundred years of trans screen representation Disclosure, which launched on Netflix on Friday June 19th. The online conversation, streamed simultaneously on YouTube, Facebook and Twitter, will feature executive producer Laverne Cox, director Sam Feder, producer Amy Scholder, as well as many of the documentary’s on screen all trans cast including Candis Cayne, Zachary Drucker, Mj Rodriguez, Jen Richards, Tiq Milan, Brian Michael Smith, Chase Strangio, and Zeke Smith. The panel will be moderated by Raquel Willis.
“We cannot imagine a better community launch than what NAQFA has created,” says Disclosure Director Sam Feder and Executive Producer Laverne Cox on the event. “We are so deeply honored that Disclosure was selected by NAQFA for their first event. Disclosure was made with a new world in mind, which connects deeply to this moment. The social uprising we are witnessing now is about how a community has systematically been oppressed by those in power and with more privilege. Trans people, especially those Black and Brown, know this experience intimately. Disclosure, a documentary chronicling the history of trans imagery on screen, underscores how patriarchy, white supremacy, settler colonialism, and capitalism further oppresses our most marginalized. We want Disclosure to be of use within the current uprising and to reach communities who need to see it the most.”

NAQFA are working together to plan additional events in 2020, and will continue to advocate for and support LGBTQ filmmakers through their respective festivals.
