Ginger Minj to make Broadway Sacramento debut as Edna Turnblad in Hairspray August 21st – 30th

Drag Race Hall of Famer Ginger Minj will make her Broadway Sacramento debut as Edna Turnblad in A Broadway At Music Circus production of Hairspray in a limited run, August 21st – 30th, at the UC Davis Health Pavilion. Tickets are on sale now at broadwaysacramento.com.

“To finally play Edna Turnblad is truly a dream come true”, enthuses Ginger Minj. “She is one of musical theater’s most beloved characters because she reminds us that love, family, and believing in one another can change the world. At a moment when people need joy more than ever, I can’t think of a better story to tell. I’m deeply honored to stand on the shoulders of Divine, John Waters, Harvey Fierstein, and all of the extraordinary artists who created this enduring celebration of acceptance, laughter, and the courage to be unapologetically yourself.”

Adapted from John Waters’ classic film—which just received Criterion Collection 4K restoration—Broadway’s Tony Award-winning musical comedy phenomenon, Hairspray, follows 16-year-old Tracy Turnblad in 1960s segregated Baltimore as she sets out to dance her way onto the city’s most popular teen TV show. Can a big girl with big dreams (and even bigger hair) change the world? Featuring the beloved score of hit songs including “Welcome to the ‘60s,” “Good Morning Baltimore” and “You Can’t Stop the Beat”.

Ginger Minj will star as Edna Turnblad opposite Kaitlyn Louise Smith as Tracy Turnblad in a cast that will feature Jamie Torcellini, Altamiece Carolyn Cooper, Michael Starr, Hannah Sedlacek, Will Savarese, Kathryn Brunner, Jamonté D. Bruten, Madeleine Doherty, Dave Pierini, Olivia Elease Hardy, and Sara Gettelfinger.

This fall, Ginger Minj, Jujubee, Sapphira Cristal and Landon Cider will tour Hokus Pokus Live! across North America.
