Exclusive Interview: Joe Bell star Reid Miller “it’s an honor to tell the world about Jadin’s legacy, how kind he was & what a light he was”

One of the standout acting performances at the 2020 Toronto International Film Festival came from 21-year-old Reid Miller who portrays gay teenager Jadin Bell opposite Mark Wahlberg in Joe Bell. Based on true events, with a screenplay by the Oscar-winning duo being Brokeback Mountain, Diana Ossana and the late Larry McMurtry, the film follows the working class Joe Bell (Wahlberg) as he quits his job and sets out across America from Oklahoma to New York on foot to honour his son Jadin and to warn of the damaging and potentially tragic repercussions that homophobic bullying can have.

Ahead of the film’s release in US theaters on Friday July 23rd, The Queer Review’s editor James Kleinmann had an exclusive conversation with Reid Miller about taking on the role and the impact he hopes that Joe Bell will have on audiences. “The fight for equality, inclusion, and acceptance is such an important one”, Reid told The Queer Review, “I hope this movie is a brutal wake up call for the people who have turned a blind eye to that fight.”
