GALECA: The Society of LGBTQ Entertainment Critics has just announced the winners of its 13th Dorian Film Awards, with The Power of the Dog and Flee winning big. Jane Campion’s queer western won Best Film, Best Director, and Best Screenplay, while Jonas Poher Rasmussen’s animated documentary won Best LGBTQ Film and both Best Documentary and Best LGBTQ documentary, in addition to GALECA’s new Best Animated Film honour.
Among the other winners was Rebecca Hall’s Passing which was named Best Unsung Film, Ryûsuke Hamaguchi’s Drive My Car (Doraibu mai kâ) took the Dorian for Best Non-English Language Film, Lin-Manuel Miranda’s Tick, Tick… Boom! won Best Film Music, while the performance categories saw wins for Kristen Stewart’s portrayal of Princess Diana in Spencer and Ariana DeBose for her supporting turn in West Side Story. DeBose was also GALECA’s 2022 Rising Star winner.
There were double honours for Pedro Almodóvar who received both GALECA’s Wilde Artist and LGBTQIA+ Trailblazer accolades, while Rita Moreno became the group’s latest Timeless Star winner. As for the Campiest Flick of the year, the LGBTQ Entertainment Critics bestowed that honour on Ridley Scott’s House of Gucci.
