Obie award-winning performer James Jackson, Jr.—whose recent stage credits include Michael R. Jackson’s Tony and Pulitzer Prize-winning musical A Strange Loop on Broadway and Off-Broadway’s White Girl in Danger—will celebrate the start of Pride Month in style with a two-night stint at East Village mainstay Pangea. Jackson has graced the stages of Radio City Music Hall and Carnegie Hall, while his cabaret work has seen him perform at popular venues such as Joe’s Pub, DROM, Duane Park, 54 Below, and The Green Room 42. He is also co-host of the Broadway-themed podcast 5 Questions with James and JAM with his dear friend, Tony-nominee John-Andrew Morrison.

Jackson’s latest solo show, “Cabaret…Debut”, promises a humourous take on his 15-year career on New York City’s famed and fabled cabaret scene. “You never forget your first time!” quips Jackson, who has worked alongside music director Elliot Roth, to create an show that will comprise “classic (but completely brand new) stylings of Broadway, soul, folk, and the popular lesbian hits that made him the cabaret diva…he hopes to someday be.”
A native of Boston, and graduate of Westfield State University, Jackson’s cabaret shows, both solo and as part of The Black-Ups (with co-creators LaDonna Burns and Elliot Roth), have been seen across the country at The American Repertory Theatre’s Club Oberon in Cambridge, Los Angeles’ Lyric Theatre, The Provincetown Theatre, The Post Office Cabaret, and Tin Pan Alley. Later this month, he will be taking part in a special Juneteenth performance in Provincetown at The Wilde!
James Jackson, Jr. will perform “Cabaret…Debut” on Saturday, June 1st at 9:30pm and Sunday, June 2nd at 7pm in the cabaret room at Pangea, 178 Second Avenue, between 11th and 12th Streets, Manhattan. $20 tickets can be ordered online at PangeaNYC.com and $25 at the door (cash only).
