For one night only Madonna’s Club Confessions was the hottest queer club in New York City

On Saturday night, Madonna’s Club Confessions NY turned Queens’ Knockdown Center into the hottest queer club in New York City. Following her surprise appearance alongside Confessions collaborator Stuart Price at Los Angeles’ iconic gay bar The Abbey back in April, the Queen of Pop went on to bring Club Confessions to London and Paris, before returning to the city where her career began, as she reflects upon in “Danceteria”, one of the breakout hits from her critically lauded album Confessions II. On Sunday, it was confirmed as the tenth US Billboard 200 chart number 1 album of the artist’s five-decade spanning career.

Before Madonna joined Price on the decks in New York just after 1am, the crowd was already on the dance floor taking in a thrilling lineup of some of the world’s most celebrated contemporary DJs including Sam-E, Junior Sanchez, and FCUKERS, with Honey Dijon taking things home at the end of night. Dijon, who appears in Madonna’s star-studded Confessions II film and worked on the album’s Afterhours Edition, brought things to a climax on stage alongside Madonna and Price with a live remix of the 1983 classic “Physical Attraction”.

The rest of Madonna and Price’s euphoric set took in tracks from both Confessions albums, with Madonna delivering live vocals and throwing the mic to dance floor, looking thrilled that the whole room already knew every word of her new songs, many of which they had only heard for the first time just a week before.

The atmosphere in the room was electric, with an invite-only crowd of Madonna fans and competition winners. When Madonna encouraged the sweaty revelers to take off their shirts, the gay men in the crowd who were still wearing theirs needed little encouragement from Mother. The celebrity guest list included Ariana DeBose, Andrew Scott, Kim Petras, Pabllo Vittar, Jeremy O. Harris, Dianne Brill, Este Haim, Julio Torres, Todrick Hall, Sophia Lamar, Bob the Drag Queen, Plane Jane, Aquaria, Kaytranada, Christian Siriano,and Broadway’s Titanique stars Frankie Grande, John Riddle, and Layton Williams. Though there was a distictly egalaterian feeling in the air. It wasn’t about who was in the VIP areas, it was all about the music, celebrating one of Madonna’s finest albums and feeling liberated, escaping on the dance floor.

Cocktails flowed courtesy of Absolut, a company with a decades-long history of supporting LGBTQ+ causes and events, while the evening was presented by MISTR, a gay owned and operated business that focuses on gay men’s sexual health, supplying PrEP, DoxyPEP, HIV treatment, and ED medication. For MISTR Founder and CEO Tristan Schukraft the partnership was a perfect fit.
